HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A well attended, committee meeting of the above was held on Tuesday night. Mr G. H. Stiles (president) occupied the chair, and complimented those present on the large attendance, which was evidence of the keen Interest displayed In the Society’s affairs. Apologies for absence were re celved from Mr Henderson and Mr and Mrs Galland. Correspondence was read and received from newly-elected vice-presidents. The date of tbs Bulb Show was fixed for Thursday, September 2nd. The secretary stated that it was impossible to hire the hall on a Wednesday. Mr Lurasden suggested that the Show be held on a Monday. Others favoured Wednesday, as this, being the half-holiday, would give the public an opportunity to be present in the afternoon. It was pointed out by others that the afternoon attendances at the show were a negligible quantity. The catalogue for the Bulb Show was then discussed, and except for a few minor alterations is the same as last year. On the mot } on of Messrs Hornblow and Jackson, a cookery class for children was added, and Mr Hornblow offered to canvass for prizes for same. A sub committee or ladles present was appointed to draw up the class. Owing to the absence of Mr Galland, his deferred motion re increased scale of prizes was postponed. Mrs Pearce was elected to the vacancy on the Committee caused by the retirement ot Mrs Raiue. Mr and Mrs Rhodes are again to be asked to officiate as judges at the Bulb Show. The following donated special prizes for the Bulb Show; —Mr Stiles, trophy xos 6d ; Mrs Renton, trophy los 6d ; Mr W.
