HOCKEY.

Yesterday afternoon Foxton played Shannon on the Shannon ground and suffered defeat by four goals to three. The ground was in a very bad state, being practically a quagmire and good play was consequently out of the question. In the first spell the game was fairly even, both sides scoring two goals. In the second half Shannon “hopped off” and kept the visitors on the defensive and were successful in penetrating the defence on two occasions. Towards the end of the spell Foxton “bucked up” and scored another goal, but were unable to even up matters and the game ended— Shannon 4—Foxton 3. The positions of the teams is as under: —

Foxton’s wins include a forfeit by%evin.
