BRITISH-MADE TOYS.
A special feature of the British Industries Fair at the Agricultural Hall, London, was a display ot British-made model locomotives and trains, and of equipment for miniature railway systems. This important branch ot the toy trade has for years been almost entirely in German hands, and there is one very large Nuremburg firm which has not only supplied the bulk of the requirements of the British market, but has also built up a large business in model steamers, small electro-motors, and other mechanical toys. Some years ago a determined attempt was made to beat the Germans, and the Britishmade article is so incomparably superior, that it is worth the small extra cost. But hitherto the trade in cheap articles of the kind, which have far the greatest sale, has been mainly in German hands. Now our makers have got their opportunity, it is to be hoped that the German mechanical toy will be for ever banished, as has already happened in the case of the toy soldier.
