The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, June 5, 1915. WELL DONE FOXTON !

The Variety Fair Committee are to be congratulated upon the success which has attended their efforts on behelf of the Belgian Fund. The affair easily constitutes a Foxton record for any indoor effort. It is anticipated that the sum of £22r> will be realised. Where all worked so enthusiastically it would be unfair to single out persons for individual praise, but we believe it to be our duty to place on record the names of Mr Smith, local manager for Messrs Fuller’s, Etd., who initiated the scheme and did so much to ensure its success, to Mr A. J. Kellow, the indefatigable secretary, upon whom so much responsibility and hard work fell and to our worthy Mayor (Mr Alf. Fraser). The efforts of these gentlemen were backed up by a number of ladies and gentlemen who sacrificed all else for a time in a good cause. The public has had many calls of late but they responded with splendid liberality. This scheme brings Foxton’s public effort on behalf of the Belgians to a close. Together with the previous fete the total amount raised by special efforts locally for the Belgian Fund (apart from individual donations) amounts to upwards of ,£7OO. Taking this sum, in conjunction with amounts raised for Patriotic purposes, and the good work being accomplished by the Ladies Guild, into consideration, it will be seen that Foxton is doing its share equally with any town of its size in the Dominion. It is a time for sacrifice and self-denial and much more yet remains for us to do. That we will each do our part nobly goes without saying. We are proud of what Foxton has done so far and we believe it will do even more when occasion arises in the future.
