THE LADIES GUILD.

The weekly meeting of the Foxton Ladies Guild was held in the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. The receipts aud expenditure for the rn nth were submitted. The receipts totalled 6s 8d and the expenditure £33 10s Sd, leaving a debit balance of & 4s. The receipts were made up from the following donations : Employees Poplar mill £2 14s and £2 13s 6d, Mesdames F. Robinson £2 ns Bd, J. Robinsou, Moore, Seabury, J. Barber, Wm. Ross, Bock £1 each, A. S. Easton £2 as, C. Robinson £1 is, Harvey, Tevlotdale, Boyes 10s each, Symes £1 5s 6d, Royal Picture eutertaiment £S 19s, Mr Wm. Ross £2. Excepting for two small amounts for postage and fieight, the amount shown 'he debit side was expended on .^a.erial. We should like to place the position and objects of the giifid before the ladies of Foxton in order to prevent overlapping and if possible to stimulate a greater interest in the good work the guild ins under'.aken, and which, we hope, it will continue, with the hearty co-operation of all women in the community. The guild started out to make up necessary garments for the poor of Great Britain aud Belgium and forwarded several cases of useful articles for distribution to the Old Country. In response to an urgent appeal for garments for our wounded the guild subsequently set to work in this connection. The guild is prepared to continue to work indefinitely, but unless funds are forthcoming its usefulness will be considerably minimised. There is absolutely no desire to conflict or overlap with the efforts of the girls, because there is work for all. But no money raised by private special effort should be sent out of the town as cash contributions when the money so 1 raised can be utilised for the same object locally. The guild is at present in want of funds and unless cash is forthcoming their labours must cease aud we therefore make this appeal on their behalf. | We, may mention also, that in the future the Guiid will work solely tor our wounded soldiers, and we hope, therefore, that this appeal will meet with a hearty and liberal response.
