A BASELESS RUMOUR.

According to the secretary of tbe Flaxmills Employees’ Union rumours were current in Palmerston to the effect that members of the union intended to raid and loot properties owned by Germans to-day. The secretary forwarded a letter to the whole of the flaxmills in the district asking the employees not to visit Palmerston, so that in the event of a riot taking place no blame could be attached to member? of the union. From our knowledge of the flaxworkers in this locality, we may state that the rumour is not only baseless, but ridiculous, and the warning circular appearing in the press from the secretary, so far as this district is concerned, was quite uncalled for and the notoriety created is resented by local workers, who know how to conduct themselves in times such as these.
