MANAWATU COUNT COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Mauawalu Couuty Council was held at Sanson ou Tuesday, Present :—Sir las. Wilson (chairman), aud Crs H. H. Hunt, H. G. Hammond, W. J. Phillips, Strode, Penney, W. E. Barber aud B. Gray. A letter was read from the Rangilikei County Council, asking if it was proposed to extend the tram in the immediate future, seeing money would become dearer later ou. The chairman was authorised to communicate with the Rangitikei Couuty Couu cil in connection with same. It was decided not to make any application to the Government lor grants for roads. The chairman said the Council did not receive any grants when it did apply. TKAM MANAGER’S RKI’ORT. The traffic was good, but as the expenditure was heavy, only a credit of 13s rod was made. The chief items ot traffic were ; Grain and minerals 90 R tons, merchandise 122)4 tons, chaff 62 trucks, sheep 69 trucks, timber 17,400 feet. Fares amounted to T 4 9S 9<L The 25 tous of 40IL). rails ordered some lime ago have come to hand. The running of the ballast train ha” necessitated the employment of two more men on the running staff. Five special trams were run iu connection with the sheep traffic during the mouth. KNGINKER'S REI ’ORT. The Engineer reported 011 the Awahou Riding as follow.-; Mr C, Petersen is making good progress with bis contract tor supplying and delivering metal ou the Foxton Shannon road, aud iu all probability will have the work completed by the end of the pre senUnonth. 1 have arranged to spread two loads of metal at the approaches of each bridge ou the Kari Kari road.
