TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.

The Town Clerk reported at Monday night’s Council meeting as follows : “I have to report that the road staff has been engaged as under since the last meeting : Cleaning out draius in Avenue Road, Russel, Spring, Union, Tleta, Coley, Tenks Streets, Norhiton Road aud Awahou drain ; cleaning water channels in Main Street ; patching holes in Avenue and other streets. In connection with the cleaning of drains, I would suggest that another year this work be done by contract and so allow our staff to be employed on other more pressing works. 1 would recommend that the Works Committee meet at an early date to decide as to what amount of metal will need to be ordered, aud that this year we get on to the metalling of the roads earlier than has been the custom bithetto, so the metal will have a better chance of settling down. Owing to the removal of the old post office and the back yard being so exposed now, 1 would ask for authority to have the fence attended to right back from the footpath. This work could be paid for out of the Reserves Account which js well iu funds and the small amount needed would not be missed.”
