WELLINGTON QUEEN CARNIVAL.

EXTENSION OF NOMINA

TION DATE. The date for the closing cf nominations for the Carnival Oueeu of Wellington has been extended to Tuesday, May 11. This has been decided upon at the urgent request of fhe various committees connected with the election, in order to allow more time for the selection of the candidates. The New Zealand Patriotic Society, who are conducting the Carnival, anticipate that a score of ladies will be forthcoming to contest the election, which should create a great interest throughout the City and province. It should only Ire necessary to mention the objects for which the Carnival is being arranged, in order to secure the Interest and active support of every citizen. Its purpose is to raise funds for the establishment of a Base Hospital at the Tremham Encampment, and to provide a fund for the assistance of New Zealanders who are incapacitated while on active service, and for the support of the depend ems of those whose lives are sacrificed in defence of the Empire. The list of casualties which has already come to band emphasises the urgeucy of this efloit. It is the plain duty of all citizens to “stand by ” the men who have left their homes and loved ones to fight in foreign lauds. It is for ns to help the wounded, make provision for those who become dis abled, and to give necessary assistance to bereaved parents, wives, and children. I

The coming Ciruival provides an opportunity for all who a;e willing to help. The first require-, ment is the nomination of ciudidates to contest the election of a “Queen.” It is confidently hoped that ladies who are approached for this putpose will readily consent, and feel the honour ot being enabled to give great assistance to a charitable cause. If the people ot Wellington Bi evince enter heartily into the .-pint of the Carnival and keep its purposes in view, then it will be an a-sured success, and a handsome sum wi 1' be raised for the assistance of “ Our Brave Boys.”
