ENTERTAINMENTS.

FULLER’S PICTURES,

A splendid selection of pictures constituted the change of programme at the Town Hall last night, “The Battle of the Sexes” taking pride of place. The story is advanced through many scenes enacted with the accompanying notes of New York night life. Another picture of great merit is, “ Taken by Storm,” a sterling comedy by the Vitagraph Comedy, while “From Christiana to Bergen” is one of the finest scenic pictures yet screened. On Friday and Saturday there will be a complete change, featuring a powerful Vitagraph production, “The Spirit and the Clay,” a romance distinguished by imagination in the conception, and truth in its characterisations. Paul, a young farmer, is discovered by a brilliant sculptor, who recognises the latent talent in the young man. Paul quickly rises to notoriety. He is unable to obtain a model lor his statue of Fame. His sweetheart, a beautiful young girl, consents to pose, but later becomes seriously ill. Against the doctor’s wish, Paul, in his anxiety to complete the statue, delays his sweetheart's rest, until one day, while posing, she Jails dead. Paul’s mind is so affected by his great sorrow that his mind becomes unhinged, and he imagines that she still visits the studio, and her soul is entering into the clay which he is forming. The ending is sad, but the audience realises it was the only way he could find happiness. The foregoing will be supported by a full complement of scenic, comic, dramatic and topical items.
