OBITUARY.
ALFRED WILLIAM HURST, AGED 86 YEARS. Another of the small hand of pioneers passed peacefully away at his residence, Thynne Street, on Sunday afternoon, in the person of Mr Alfred William Hurst at the ripe age of 86 years. Up till a few hours before his death the old gentleman was about as usual, but it was noticed that he appeared particularly quiet. After sitting outside for a while he went indoors and sat on his bed and quietly passed away. The deceased had suffered from chronic asthma for same years. The late Mr Hurst arrived in Wellington with his parents when a boy and lived for many years at the Hutt. As a ycung man he served with the militiai and took part in the hunting down of Te Rauparaha. Thirty odd years ago he took up his residence at Woodville where he engaged in farming pursuits and also building and contracting. About eight years ago be removed to Foxton. He leaves a widow and family of five, Mrs Bennett (Mataroa, Talhape), Alfred and Nathan (Foxton), David and Joseph (Mataroa). A few years ago deceased went to Wellington and took part in a reunion of the old settlers and was singled out as one of the earliest. Together with the general public we extend our sympathy to the bereaved family. The funeral will take place to-morrow, leaving his late residence Thynne Street at 2,30 o’clock for the Foxton Cemetery.
