LOSS OF AN ONLY SON.

The Bishop of London told the following story at the opening of the Upper House of Convocation : “An old man, the father of one of the brightest boys in the Loudon Rifle Brigade, told me on Saturday that his son had just been shut. The father was only a superior joiner, but he had spent a thousand pounds, all his savings, on that boy to educate him and give him a chance, and the boy was just repaying his lather financially when the war broke out. He was allowing him ,£SO a year, and he told his father just before the war that he would never see want. “I am taking every care to see that that man and his wife, who have had their only son taken from them, shall have relief given them.’’
