SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman). Hussey, Henderson, Perreau and Thompson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Chrystall, Betty, Woods and Mitchell. Correspondence was read from the Board re aditional accommodation, and improved ventulation, and stating that the work would be undertaken by the Board’s staff as soon as practicable. The Chairman reported upon certain minor matters which had received attention during the month. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Chrystall, for repairs effected to the fence. Correspondence was received from the school committees association re the annual conference, and suggestions for the agenda paper.’ It was decided to hold over the correspondence for consideration by the incoming committee. The head teacher reported that the average attendance for the quarter ended 31st March, was of an average roll number of 359.6. The averages for the past four weeks were : 364, 361, 361.3, 354, the average for the whole period being 360 out of an average roll number of 391. Influenza had caused a slight falling off. Miss Bailey resumed duty on April Ist, after two months leave owing to illness, and one of the pupil teachers was laid up with the prevailing epidemic. The report, conveyed the thanks of the staff for the good feeling evidenced during the year. It was decided tc ask the Board to replace two cracked sky-lights, and in the meant time to secure them with wire netting. The balance-sheet was read and approved, subject to audit. Other minor matters were discussed, and it was decided to meet at 7.15 on Monday, 26th inst., prior th the householders meeting.
