The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, April 15, 1915. MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

The electors ot Foxton before pledging themselves to any candidate for the Mayoralty or Council should most carefully scrutinise not only the qualifications of candidates, but also the policy they intend to pursue during the ensuing two years. At the present time the man without ideas as to the future of the town and district, is a back number and a dummy—and represents stagnation. The Town Clerk can certify to the correctness of accounts, and matters ol administrative detail without the assistance of dummies. What we want is men with welldefined and clear cut views of works to be accomplished within the given period. This cannot be done unless aspirants to office have a thorough knowledge not only ot the financial position, but the requirements of the borough. The progress of Foxton is also connected with the port, the hemp industry and closer settlement. While these matters are not directly connected with the administrative affairs of the borough, yet it cannot be denied that Foxton’s future is bound up in them and the Council as a responsible body can exert an influence and pressure to their solution beyond anything which may be attempted by private or Irresponsible organisations. It therefore becomes necessary to elect the best men the town can command to administer its affairs both from a local and district point of view. Our legislative enactments have widened the scope ot municipal administration and the day of the '‘village pump” order of local government has passed and a wider sphere ot operations is provided affording full scope for men with initiative and progressive ideas. We are convinced that Foxton has a bright future before it, but the dynamic force must be generated locally for its fulfilment.
