CEO, JAN AND MISCHEL CHERNIAVSKY. It was a country town in Australia ; the concert manager having slipped Into his “ glad rags ” outside the local hall to watch the people enter. “Say -mister,’' said a backblocks individual, “Good Pilcburcs to-night?’’ “Pictures, my dear man” said the manager raising his eyebrows, “ oh, yes, the programme boy has some very fine pictures for sale 0! Leo, Jan and Mischel Cberuiavsky, the artists who are appearing here to-night.” “Oh its a ‘ gaff,’does they darucegovernor ?” “No” responded the manager. “ Sing?” laconically queried the man, “No” replied the manager. “ What they do ?” continued the enquirer. “ Play the piano, violin and cello.” “Is that all ” responded the backblocks man. “Will they play for our ’Op ’ after the show ?” “ I’m really alraid they could not undertake the onerous duties involved iu playing for your “ Op ” said the unuager. “Ob, it aiut difficult mister,” I plays the mouth organ, and I’ll soon show 'em ’ow to play the darnces.” The manager courteously declined the proffered lessons, and so the Cherniavskys were deprived of the opportunity of extending their musical experiences. These wonderful artists supported by a lourth brother, Alexander Cherniavsky, will appear here on Monday night, and judging by the interest being taken in their coming, they should easily eclipse all records ever established in this town.
ROYAIy PICTURES. At the Royal to-night the great war drama, “The Sinews of War,” conveying a realistic idea of life near the firing line, will be repeated. Also a particularly interesting topical film showing the new ruler of Egypt. The New Zealand and Australian coutingents are both shown in this
picture. For to morrow night the star film is, 'The Isle of Abandoned Hope,” something quite out of the ordinary run aud supported by, ”Mike, the Housemaid,” comic ; “Budd Doble Comes Back,’’drama; “Luncheon for Three,” comic ; “Red Sweeney’s Mistake,” drama; “Pimple Escapes to Portland,” comic ; and “Construction of a Life Boat,” interest.
