DIPHTHERIA.
Diphtheria is not a local disease. It does not begin in the throat and become general by the absorption of toxines from the diseased surface via the lymphatic system. Diphtheria is a constitutional disease from its inception. It begins in the stomach. It extends to the blood, breaking down the corpuscles and liberating fibrin ferment. The appearance of a membrane in the throat is of good omen. It is of the nature of an excretion like urine and sweat. Barring mechanical obstruction, the membrane will do no harm if kept sweet and clean by the free use of antiseptics. The lymphatics ot the neck swell because overloaded with organic debris. Stimulate them with topical applications. The body sewers — skin, bowel.;, kidneys are stagnant. h' n nse them. Purify and swee'.n the stomach. Build up the blood.
