THE SPIRIT OF RUSSIA.
Those who read “The Day of the Saxon,” by General Horaer Tea, of the United States, may remember a striking passage that well summed up the Russian spirit. “Russia,” it said, “in the course of her progress troubles herself as little about her losses in war as the Russian native about the wilderness created by her winter. In the eighteenth century this Empire put 4,910,000 troops iu the fields; of these 1,380,000 survived. In the nineteenth century the total number of troops on active service came to 4,900,000, and theirjosses to 1,4x0,000 ; and yet at the commencement of the eighteenth century Russia’s population only amounted to 12,000,000 and at the commencement of the nineteenth century to 38,000,000. The courage and determination exhibited in every Russian scheme of expansion during the sevententh century, and for 200 years, prove that Russia would never voluntarily abandon them. Hitherto these Russians have never jibbed, never hesitated. Without haste, and even after a reverse ever full of hope, sober after victory, never casting a glance at the ground wh.ch their battles have heaped with corpses, and their eyes firmlv fixed on that distant, hue definite, goal on which they were first directed.”
were at last recommenJed to me, and no one knows how thankful I am I got this medicine. It proved to be the very thing 1 wanted, for alter taking four or five bottles of the pills all pains had left me and I feel in splendid health. This did not happen yesterday, but eighteen mouths ago, and I am still well.” Two years later Mrs Donald says: “It is nearly four years since Doan Backache Kidney Pills cured me of kidney trouble, and I have had no return of the ailment. My lasting cute proves how thoroughly genuine Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills are.” It cauuot be 100 often repeated that Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills will cure every ill of the kidneys and bladder ; they will make you well and keep you well.
