BELGIUM FETE.
A PALMERSTON EFFORT.
From all quarters oilers of help are being received on behalf of the suffering Belgian people and the Grand Fete on the Palmerston N. Showgrounds on March 24th, promises to be a huge financial success. A large band of energetic ladies is already hard at work making preparations to fully stock the various stalls. Donations of all kinds will be thankfully received by the joint secretaries, Mrs L. A. Abraham and Mr J. Permain, or by the Mayoress.
A gilt auction will be one of the features of the fete. For this donations of live stock and farm produce are being received. In the way of entertainment the public will have opportunities galore. There will 1 baby show, Punch and Judy shows, merry-go rounds, cycle races, a seven a-side football tournament, weight guessing, tug-of-war and other competitions. The Municipal and Salvation Army Bauds will be .in attendance and the “Darkey Town’’ Fire Brigade wiil give a demonstration. The public of Palmerston N. and surrounding districts will thus have a unique opportunity of contributing to the relief of Belgium distress. The duty of succouring Belgium is a sacred one and in view of the noble sacrifice she has made for us the task of coming to her aid ought to be to ns more of a privilege than a duty.
