POLITICAL.
NORTHERN MAORI PETITION DISMISSED. The petition against the return of Tau Harare for the Northern Maori seat has been dismissed bytwo judges of the Supreme Court. One of the most interesting portions of the evidence was re- i spondent's statement that he had * been “interviewed” by only one political party (the Opposition), and the Opposition’s organiser had promised that the petition would be withdrawn if Tau Henare agreed to vote for the Ward Party. Including this constituency, the Government hold forty one seats, of which one (Bay of Islands) is the subject of petition. The Ward, Eabour and Social Democratic Parties total thirty-nine, of which two (Taumarunui and Hawke’s Bay), are being reviewed by Election Courts. Unless all three cases go against the Government, Mr Massey will not be under an obligation to meet Parliament before the usual time.
