BOWLING.
The Dixon Cup was packed up yesterday afternoon andtaken to Terrace End, the visiting rink from that club being successful in deleating the holders by 24 points to 16. The visitors started off well, scoring a brace on the first bead and a single on the second, but Foxton evened up with a three on the third head, and got one ahead with a single on the fourth. On each of the two sac ceeding heads Terrace End scored a single, giving them a lead oi one. On the seventh, Foxton got three in, and a farther one on the eighth, when the afternoon tea adjournment was taken with the score S —s in the home team’s favour. The refreshments apparently revived the visitors, as Foxton was five down on the first head after resuming play, Terrace End thus getting ahead, and from this out until the end of the game the visitors maintained the lead. They scored a single ou the tenth head, and Foxton retaliated with a pair on the eleventh, ihe visitors scored two ou the twelfth, and Foxton the same number ou the thirteenth —Terrace Eud 14, Foxton 12. lu the next two heads the challengers increased their score to 17, hut with tbre singles the home team reduced the majority to two, with turee heads to play. The nineteenth head, however, practically decided the match, Terrace End putting on five, giving them a lead of seven. On the next head a further couple was added, which put the result of the match beyond any doubt whatever. Foxton scored a single ou the final head. The following are the teams and scores : Terrace End. Foxton. Oakley F, Whibley Levy McColl Lind Tye Turner (s) 24 Rimmer (s) 16
At the conclusion of the game, the President ot the Foxton Bowling Club (Mr F. Woods) handed the Dixon Cup over to the visitors, and congratulated them on their win. Mr Turner suitably responded.
Owing -to a mistake in Palmerston, Foxton’s challenge for the Mansou and Barr Cup, which should have taken precedence over some of the other games for this trophy, was overlooked. However, arrangements have now been made lor a local rink to meet the winner of the Terrace End-Feild-ing match. This match will be played on Saturday, and Foxton’s challenge will be decided next Wednesday, either at Terrace Eud or Feildiug.
