CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor)Sik. —It was with .pleasure I read In Tuesday’s issue of the Herald your appeal on behalf oi Belgium’s starving millions, and the very practical suggestion that has been made in this connection, namely, that all should give a definite weekly sum to help feed these needy ones, to whom our heart’s sympathy goes out so sincerely. You say that Fox'on could provide £2O a week. This it could easily do and never even miss it, if everyone realised the duty and privilege of giving in order to ameliorate in some degree the awful sufferings of these afflicted people. We cannot realise what these fearful sufferings are, but in the wise old book we read, “They that are slain of the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger.” Let us deeply ponder on this fact, and let us think, too, of the kind of service which God requires of us. He says, “Is not this the fast that I have chosen ? To deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy bouse; when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him ; and that thou hide not thy self from thine own flesh.” Wishing this project much success.—l am, yours truly., Sympathiser.

AN ANONYMOUS SYMPATHISER.

The editor has received the following note from a sympathiser, also a cheque for The donor desires the name to te wilheld. The writer says : “Kindly inform whoever Is responsible for receiving funds that I promise to contribute one pound per week until such time as it will not be further required.” We may add that the donor is making a great personal sacrifice to fulfil this promise voluntarily entered upon- and sets an example worthy of emulation. The donor realises to the full the great part Belgium has played In this great crisis.
