THE MAYORALTY.
At the conclusion of the last Council meeting Cr Henderson said that it was freely stated that the Mayor (Mr G. H. Stiles), did not intend to offer himself for reelection. Cr Henderson said that it this were correct he hoped the Mayor would reconsider the matter. He said he was sure the desire cf Councillors and the public generally was that Mr Stiles should again occupy tbe position he bad now filled for some years. He concluded by asking the Mayor to again consider the matter and let them know his decision as early as possible. Cr Read endorsed the remarks ot the previous speaker, and expressed the hope that the Mayor would consent to nomination for re-election. The Mayor thanked the speakers for their kindly remarks, but made no announcement as to whether he intended again contesting tbe Mayoralty or not.
