THE GAS WORKS.
Duriug the month of January the amount ot gas manufactured at the local works was 295,500 ft., which with the amount in holder on Ist January, 4000 ft., made a total ot 299,500 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 126,900 ft. and for power 51,400 ft., 30,000 ft. was used in the street lamps, 21,500 ft. in the works and there was 4,500 ft. in holder on xst February, leaving n,Sooft., representing per cent of the total output, unaccounted for. Twentyfive and a half tons of coal was carbonised yielding n.yooit. per ton. The earnings totalled is 9d, made up of gas sales (lighting) 15s 1 id, (heat and power) £36 18s, meter rent ss, cokes sales £i± 17s Sd, tar sales £y 19s, weighing 13s, fitting account 13s 2d, fittings 7s, miscellaneous 13s. The expenditure was as follows ; Coal £3l 4s gd, salaries and wages 14s 4d, labour (plant) £2, (services) £1 6s, (fittings) £l, plant £S ns gd, working expenses £y 17s 4d, printing and advertising £y ss, interest and sinking fund irs Sd, a total of ios rod.
