MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The regular meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson on Monday. Present : —Crs. Sir James Wilson (chairman), H. H. Hunt, W. J. Phillips, H. J. Hammond, S. Penny, B. Gray, and W. E. Barber.
The Foxton Borough Council wrote, asking that willows on the Whirokino road be cut back.
The Kairanga County Council reported that its inspector bad been instructed to confer with the Manawatu Inspector re fascining sand face at Rangiotu, with power to act.
The Public Trust agreed to lend £SOO additional to .£1,500 Hospital loan at 5% per cent. The Foxton Flaxmilling Co. asked permission to erect flax weighbridge and platform on roadside near Whirokino bridge, agreeing to indemnify the Council against any claims that might arise.
Mr George Coley, of B'oxton, wrote asking that the ;e on the road leading from Sorensen’s store to the lake be removed, as the road was being used as a paddock. —Cr Hammond to report. The County Tieasurer reported as follows: Bank balances : General account, dr., £975 3 s rod ; loan account, cr., £205 2s 8d ; net dr. balance, £770 is 2d. Riding accounts. Available for expenditure: Sandon £46 33 7a, Waitohi £lO 7s 6d, Rongotea ,£2l Ss. Kawa Kawa £206 2s 4d. Over-expended, Mount Stewart 10s Bd, Carnarvon ,£B9 18s 3d, Awahou ,£144 6s 7d.
It was decided that the county rangers be given one mouth’s notice that their services are no longer required, and that Francis Watkins be appointed county ranger at a remuneration of £r 10s per week and half .the driving fees.
The Tramway Manager reported as under :—The volume of traffic was fair, and a credit balance of ,£69 was made. The chief items of traffic were: Minerals i29 1 / 4 tons, grass seed 59 tons, merchandise wool 885 bales, timber 7,700 ft. Fares amounted to £45 is. Included in this is th« amount taken in connection with special trams for the Foxton races. The new loading ramps have been erected at Oroua Downs and Taikorea. One is badly needed at Makowhai. The necessary accommodation has been erected at Rongotea siding to allow the trucking of fat stock, and the yards at Sanson are nearly completed. The County Engineer reported on the Awahou Riding as follows : —The usual road maintenance work has been done in this riding during the past month. A portion of the Cemetery road has been re formed and pul in order. Repairs have been effected to the decking of Whirokino bridge.
