ROY AT v PICTURES
“The Race for Rubies,’’ an exploit of the great detective Nat. Pinkerton, will be shown at the Royal to-night. It shows how jewel thieves gain possession of a valuable ruby necklace cheating the jeweller by a daring ruse. Nat Pinkerton is commissioned to capture the thieves, and when pursuing his investigations he receives a mysterious letter advising him that the gang are going to Naples on an evening train. Nat determines to follow up the clue, and, missing the train, lollows by motor car until he is able to get aboard at a wayside station. Mexedo, the leader of the thieves, recognises Pinkerton, and sends a code wire to his confederates at Naples asking them ‘ ■ uop the train before it reaches ihat city. By greasing the rails in a tunnel, and starting a fire the thieves hold up the express and during the confusion that follows Mexedo and his confederates escape. Battled for the time being Pinkerton takes up his quarters at Naples, and the picture shows how he eventually rims the gang to earth.
