TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.

The following.is the report submitted by the Town Clerk, at last night’s Council meeting ; ‘T have to report that the road staff has been engaged as under during the past month : Screening metal in yard for asphalting, carting metal to yard, asphalting Clyde Street footpath, repairing concrete on footpath in Main street, cleaning channels in Clyde. Wharf, and Union streets and Avenue road, tarring metal in yard, filling in ruts in Avenue road and No. 6 Lihe, repairing tree shelters in Park street, filling in holes in Coley street, and cleaning up Triangle. “I would be glad for authority to put up a small concrete wall or boarded fence so as to protect the bank by the old Native cemetery, as I cannot finish off the footpath about there while the sand is being trodden down by the .school children every day, for any metal would be covered up with sand unless the bank is protected.

“In connection with our asphalting, we are severely handicapped in making a good finished job of this sort of work owing to the want of a heavier roller than the present one, which is too light for the work after the first roll down of the asphalt, and a better result would be obtained with a heavier roller. Were we to fill the present roller with concrete it would be altogether too heavy to do the preliminary rolling, therefore I would suggest that we obtain a second roller, and thus be enabled to complete this sort of work in a more finished style. “Victoria Park will be attended to before New Year’s Day, when the Friendly Societies Sports are to be held. The other works already authorised will be finished as soon as time permits.

“The grass at the cemetery will have to be disposed of before many days are over, and it we cannot get anyone to taks it, we will have to get rid of it ourselves, either by burning or cutting.” The report, with the exception of that portion in reference to a new roller, was adopted.
