VALEDICTORY.
Mr and Mrs Phillips, who are shortly to remove to Christchurch where Mr Phillips, has been transferred on promotion to the N-Z. Shipping Co’s. Office in th® Cathedral City, were entertained b3 r the local tennis club in the Masonic Hall last evening. Tb® interior of the building was artlStically decorated with bunting. most enjoyable time was spent by those present. At a suitable juncture, Mr Stiles, the club P re ‘ sident, referred to the loss the club was sustaining through the departure of the guests. Mr Stiles made reference to the keen enthusiasm Mr and Mrs Phillips had displayed in the club since their arrival in' Foxton, about eight years ago, and to Mr Phillips’ excellent services as club secretary. Mr Stiles a flattering tribute to Mr. Phillip ß as a citizen and a gentlemanWhile Foxton regretted his departure they were pleased to know that his removal meant well deserved promotion. On behalf of the club he presented Mr and Mrs Phillips with a travelling rug which was emblematic of the warmth ot the donors’ feelings towards them. Miss Kent-Johnston handed to Mrs Phillips a beautiful shower bouquet. The presentation concluded with the singing of ‘ For they are jolly good fellows” and three hearty cheers for Mr aud Mrs Phillips. Mr Phillips feelingly replied. Musical items, dancing and cards were indulged iu and supper was dispensed by the ladies. Mr Alf. Fraser officiated at M.C. The dance music was supplied by Mr Small, of Palmerston N., and was much appreciated. Miss Cook played an extra. Misses Signal and KempLou contributed vocal items. The Club secretary, Mr Simmons, carried out the arrangements with the utmost credit.
