Recently Mr Walsh planted the flower beds in the triangle with tender annuals. On Sunday some vandal trod on the plots and uprooted the growing plants. Steps should be taken by the local authority to prevent horse play of this nature in future.

Through a gig capsizing at Kaitangata (Dunedin) on Sunday afternoon a young man named Joseph Smith lost his life. Deceased, accompanied by two other young men, was driving down a steep road when the reins snapped. The horse became unmanageable, and horse and trap went over a bank. Smith was killed instantly, but the others were uninjured.

Master Horace Read has donated two model buildings to the Floral Fete Committee to be sold and the proceeds handed to the Belgium Fund. One is a model of a two-storeyed house with verandah and balcony, and the other a model of a small church with bell-tower, etc. The models are splendidly finished and should realise a quick sale. The models will be on view in Messrs Walker and Furrie’s window.

A dance is to be held in the ’ Masonic Hall to-morrow night, the proceeds from which will be used to buy votes for the Sports Candidate (Miss Isie Patterson).
