HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A well attended committee meeting of'the above was held on Tuesday night. The president (Mr G. H. Stiles) occupied the chair. Mr Gower wrote offering a donation of two guineas for collection of birds’ eggs and Mrs Tbynne 10s for same. Accounts were passed for payment. Miss Ross’ resignation as treasurer was accepted. The president paid a tribute to the past services of Miss Ross.. Mr T. Henderson was unanimously elected to the position. It was decided to ask the Band to play at the show. The chairman suggested that an effort should be made to secure the services also of Mr Betty’s orchestia. It was decided to communicate with Mr Betty on the subject. The following judges were appointed : Pot plants, cut blooms, fruit and vegetables, Messrs Shailer and Nairn respectively with Mr Just as vice ; dairy produce, cookery and home industries, Mr F. O. Smith (Eevin); decorative, Mrs Hume; fancy work, Mrs Croucher ; school work, Mr Watkin ; cottage garden, Mr Shailer ; school gardens, left to president and secretary to arrange. The following stewards were appointed : Pot plants, Mr Whibley; cut blooms, Mesdames C. and John Robinson ; roses, Mrs Renton; sweet peas, Mrs KerrHislop and Miss Signal; vegetables, Messrs Jas. Newth and Henderson; dairy produce, Mr Hornblow ; cookery and home industries, Mrs Jas. Robinson and Miss F. Robinson ; decorative, Mrs Hillman and Miss Neylon ; fancy work, Mesdames C. Johnston and Mandl; school work, Mr Jackson ; miscellaneous, Mr A. Speirs; supervising steward, Mr Geo. Barber; door stewards, Messrs Bullard, Newth, Lumsden and Whibley; lea rooms, Mrs T. Henderson; sweets stall, Mrs F. Woods; sheep guessing, Mr Boyes; competitions, Mr Geo, Barber. It was decided to engage the services of Mr Leary as assistant. It was pointed out that in the cookery class, prizes are awarded even it there is only one entry in each section.
The question of entering fancy work which had previously been awarded a prize in the show was allowed to stand until the rule in this connection is altered. Other minor matters were discusser! and the meeting rose.
