The German efforts to break through the British defence of the Belgian coast line has ended in failure.
The Allies maintain their positions in France. The North Sea has been closed owing to the sowing of mines by the Germans,
A German squadron made a sortie in the North Sea, the coastguard ship Halcyon being fired at. The British light cruisers were unable to compel an action before dark, and submarine D 5 struck one of the mines which the retreating ships scattered in their wake as they disappeared.
The Allies have bombarded Dardanelles aud blown up one of the forts.
The Allies are taking no chances with Turkey.
