ALL SAINTS’ ENTERTAINMENT.

A very successful entertainment was held in the Masonic Hall last night, under the auspices of All Saints’ Church. The; interior of the building was comfortably filled. The stage was tastefully furnished, and the walls decorated with bunting. The vicar, Rev Mr Raine, presided, and stated it was intended to make the affair an annual one in connection with the festival of All Saints. The programme was varied, and thoroughly appreciated by the audience, and included two sketches and a competition. The first sketch was entitled “Cross Purposes.” The characters were sustained by Mrs Kerr-Hislop (a fortune-teller of the palmist and chrystal-gazing order, whose fees depended upon the' gullibility of patrons), and Mrs Freeman (a love-sick damsel). The fortune-teller decribes a poodle and its wanderings instead of the movements of the lover’s lost swain. Some amusing coincidences and contradictious are revealed, which in the end leads to the discovery of the missing young man. The dialogue was well treated, and drew forth hearty applause. The other sketch was entitled “The Report,’’ and pointed a moral. It disclosed the danger of repeating gossip, and the truth of the old adage, “a still tongue sheweth a wise bead.’’ Mr and Mrs Boyes and Miss I. Robinson made the most of their parts, and carried the sketch through famously. Other contributors to the programme were, Mrs Guilder, Misses Jenks, Signal, Messrs Horablow, Signal, Jenks, Simmons, Barr and Buglass, and the quartette party, Mrs Boyes, Miss Signal and Messrs Barr and Signal. The competition consisted of writing the names of every section, building and occupant of same on the east and west side 'of Main street from the Family Hotel to the triangle. A syndicate represented by Mr E. Freeman won the prize. A very successful Junction was brought to a dose with the usual votes of thanks and the singing of the National Anthem.
