POLITICAL.
Mr W. H. Field, Government candidate for this constituency at the forthcoming electiou, met his Foxton supporters in the Masonic Hall last night. Owing to the state of the weather the attendance was small. Apologies for absence were received from a number of Party supporters. Several were present under the impression that the meeting was open to the public, and when the position was explained to them they withdrew. Mr Field explained fully to those present the reasons for his severance from the Liberal Party, and the negotiations which led up to his selection as the Government nominee for the seat. The whole of these details will be dealt with when he addresses his public meetings. A resolution was carried endorsing Mr_ Field’s actions, and committees ’ were set up for campaign work. Mr Field said it was not bis intention to address public meetings until Parliament was dissolved, in order to give the sitting member an equal start. Several matters of detail were discussed and the meeting rose.
