Appendicitis continues to supply vastly more surgical cases than any other single disease, says the medical staff’s annual report to the District Hospital Board, During the year 86 operations were performed for this serious malady : 20 of these cases were of the most dangerous type, being accompanied by gangrene of the appendix and peritonitis, with the patient extremely ill. In this series of 86 cases there was one death. It is pleasing to know that the public are becoming cognisant ot the serious nature of this disease, and are inclined to seek surgical aid at the earliest moment. It is by this means alone that the risk of a fatal termination can be enormously reduced.
