TOWN CLERK'S REPORT.
The Town Clerk presented his monthly report at Monday night’s Council meeting as follows ; “I beg to report that the road staff has been engaged during the past month as under, viz., spreading metai in Park and Purcell Streets and completing the concrete kerbing along Park Street, mixing asphalt in yard and carting metal to yard, cleaning channels in Main Street. The footpath from native cemetery to Lady's Mile has been formed right through, and the mound in front of Mr Jackson’s residence has been removed in consequence of the School Committee guaranteeing the Council from any other expense than its removal. The top dressing from Clyde Street will be put on this footpath as far as it will go, as soon as we get on to this work which will be put in hand as soon as we have enough asphalt mixed. Owing to the amount of asphalt required for footpaths and as the output of tar could easily be used tor a time on such works, I have not been selling any tar, but as this has caused some comment I would be glad if the Council will fix a maximum amount to be sold when we are trying to get enough for our own use, as I do not wish to sell to one and not to another. If a maximum is fixed or I am directed to supply all requirements then I will know where I stand as regards the sale of tar for the future.”
