PAPEETE BOMBARDED.
Wellington, Oct. 5
With respect to the announcement of the bombardment of Papeete by German cruisers* the Government has received information that the gunboat Zelee was destroyed and a considerable portion of the town was also destroyed by shell fire. His Excellency has also received an assurance from the Admiralty that they have the situation well in hand.
