MYSTERIOUS MURDER.

POLICE BAFFLED,

AUCKLAND, Sept. 30

The coroner’s inquest on Frances Marshall, the married woman who was found terribly mutilated in a side street in Auckland, was adjourned till October 20. The police are completely baffled.

Dr. Keller, who made the post mortem examination, says the case is reminiscent of the Whitechapel (Jack the Ripper; murders. In addition to the wounds on the head and face, there were twentyfive wounds in the chest, and the woman was stabbed through the lungs and heart. Marshall, her husband, states that he had been married twenty years, and they had lived the whole of that time in Auckland. They had lived happily, and deceased had been a faithful wife. He added that he had given the police a full account of his movements on Monday night. His wife left home to visit a neighbour about eight. After leaving the neighbour’s bouse, she called at a house close to the locality ot the tragedy at about ten o’clock. That was the last trace of her alive.
