THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
The High Commissioner cabled on Tuesday afternoon as follows: The hemp market is very little changed. The Manila market is quiet but steady at £26 10s for practically any position. The output for the week was 19,000 bales. The New Zealand market is very dull and prices are lower on account of the absence of demand and the weakness of the Sisal market. Buyers will probably not give more than 10s for good fair and ,£2l 10s for fair. These quotations are nominal. The stock of hemp and tow at the end of August was 1461 tons. The Sisal market is weak and inactive. Quotations in America are reported at cents, equal to c.i.f. New York, on account of rise in exchange, but buyers are holding back even at this price. The imports from Mexico into America from January to August were 7x6,261 bales against 457,613 bales for same time last year. The stocks at the end of August were 46,815 bales against 105,304 bales at the same time last year.
