ENTERTAINMENTS.

ROYAL PICTURES

“Lieut. Daring and Mystery of Room IT,” is the title of the star film to lie screened at the Royal to night. This series of pictures are very popular, being generally of a sensational character, and the one to be shown to-night is no exception. The programme is a well-varied one and should be well received. It will be repeated at the matinee on Saturday afternoon. Until further notice there will be no picture entertainment on Friday nights. On Saturday night “Officer John Donovan” is the chief attraction and on Wednesday next the excellent film “The Third Degree” will be screened. ROTORUA MAORI CHOIR. TO-MORROW NIGHT. The members of the famous Maori Choir, of Rotorua, consisting of over 40 clever performers, will give their unique entertainment in the Coronation Hall on Friday next. This great company whose headquarters are at Rotorua, is made up of four distinct sections —the fameus, choir, the orchestra, the champion haka and poi dancers and the tableaux company. Sir Rider Haggard, the literary giant, says no ballet he ever witnessed surpassed the beauty and interest of this great poi scene. The Sydney morning Herald gave a column in their praise saying among other things ; “Nothing can surpass the voices of the natives. Tbeir’s is not the singing of the professional with its clear cut polish, but the true natural warbling of the bird who sings because he must ; singing that rises full and clear and then seems to drop from the sky so softly as to be more than human, a singing so wild and pathetic as to make one weep, but a singing to which that ol all the Melba’s in the world is incomparable such is the Maori concert.”
