Lack of training was responsible for Horowhenua suffering defeat from their newly-formed Otaki sub-union. From the bully-off Horowhenua attacked, and the sub-union had some narrow escapes before Bryant managed to find the net. A little later McMurray scored a second goal, but the southern players then livened up and returned the compliment. Good work between McMurray, Bryant and Smart enabled the latter to score the third goal for North. Just before half-time South again found the net. Otaki made things too warm in the second spell, and with the exception of Bryant, completely outclassed the North forwards. Bryant put in some splendid work, and managed to score the fourth goal. In the last stages the home defence broke down, and Otaki rattled on three goals, the game ending 5 —4 in favour of Otaki. Messrs Broughton and C. H. Judd refereed.
