HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
Mr Stiles (president) presided over a well attended committee meeting of the local Horticultural Society last night. The balance sheet for the Bulb Show was submitted and disclosed a debit balance of 30s. The president said, taking the season and the unsettled state of affairs into consideration, the show must be considered very satisfactory and compared very favourably in point of entries, etc., with previous shows. He thought the committee acted wisely in holding the show, which had been of educational value. Miss Ross ventured the opinion that the Bulb Show would in time become the most popular show, because growers found that blooms could be produced locally without the effect required for the cultivation of other flowers. The balance sheet was adopted . and accounts passed for payment. Votes of thanks were passed to the judges, Borough Band and donors of special prizes and to Mrs Henderson and her assistants in the tea room. The hall caretaker was specially mentioned tor his assistance. It was mentioned that only one complaint had been made. Mrs Renton was elected to the vacancy on the committee. It was decided to adhere strictly to the rules governing subscriptions and attendance at committee meetings. Mr Geo. Barber was appointed supervising steward subject to his consent. Other minor matters were discussed and the meeting closed.
