You can keep it, and look out for te five quid I owe you. He tell me he werry sorry, but no more tick te pakeha te Maori. I say, put it up te flue, I go to my friend, Bauckham. He give mete big laugh. Well, Bauckham, he listen my korero, an’ then he say no more tick, too ! Well, Igo to Rimmer. Mitta Saif he say, ‘Hulloa, Hone, I never see you for te long time.’ I tell Mitta Snif, te ole woman want te soap, te tea, te painkiller. Mitta Snif he very quick make te parcel. I say, I pay you bye an’ bye. Then Mr Snif, he say, ‘sorry, Hone, no more tick.’ Py kripe, I get werry angry and tell him, no good like that. Well, I leave te shop an’ go to Mitta Kelly, and tell him te ole woman want te soap, te tea, te painkiller, an’ I pay end of te month. He put te hands up just like te drown man, an’ say te war won’t let him give te tick to te pakeha an’ Maori. He got te tousand pound on te pook an’ can’t do it. Igo home an’ tell te ole woman, an’ she give mete hiding. Dls war no good to Hone, so I goin’ to look for te job cuttin’ flax. When I get te tick I not work, but now I must find te job. Some my pakeha friend be got to work too, isn’t it ?”
