HOCKEY.

Favoured by excellent weather, the local hockey club conducted a very successful five aside tournament yesterday afternoon. Some sixty players took part, and the games were watched with great interest by two or three hundred spectators. The men’s competition was won by Shannon, who unexpectedly defeated Foxton A in the final, and the School were unbeaten in the ladies’ games. At the conclusion of the tournament, Mr McMurray, chairman of the ladies’ association, presented the Gillespie Cup and the fiveaside medals to the School team.
