THE GAS WORKS.
AUGUST WORKING. The amount ot gas manufactured at the local works last month was 355,800 ft., which with the amount in holder on August Ist, 6000 ft., made a total of 361,800 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 178,400 ft. and for cooking and power m,oooft., 30,000 ft. was used in the street lamps, 19,000 ft. in the works and manager’s house and there was 7000 ft. in the holder on September Ist, leaving x6',4ooft. unaccounted for, which also includes meters not read. The amount of coal carbonised was 31 tons yielding 11,400 ft. per ton. The earnings totalled £lßl 7s 2d, made up of gas sales ,£l6B xos xxd, tar sales 2S 6d, coke sales £6 17s 7d, fitting account £4, weighing 2s 6d, coal £1 8s 3d and sundries 5s Bd. The expenditure, amounted to .£llß is, made up of _ coal ,£37 19s 6d, wages ,£55 15s, working expenses £3 18s, fittings 6s, plant £g 2s, printing and advertising 4s and tools 16s 6d.
