THE BULB SHOW.

There were fairly good attendances both afternoon and evening at the Bulb Show on Tuesday. Although the entries were not quite as large as at last year's exhibition, under the circumstances they were very satisfactory. The Show was officially opened by the president, Mr G. H. Stiles, at 3 p.m,, who in doing so said he appreciated the position that he occupied as the newly elected President, more particularly as he remembered those who had so worthily filled the position in the past, viz., Mr A. Speirs and Mr H. Witchell, and he felt sure that the success of the Society was largely due to the good management of the past. He said that he had just received u telegram from Mr- Witchell wishing the Show success and he felt sure they all appreciated the thoughtful action of the late president. Special thanks were due to Mr and Mrs Rhodes, who had come a long distance to judge the exhibits, and he also made special mention of the good offices performed by Mr Patterson, as secretary, for a number of years past, and who was now retiring from the position. The Society was very fortunate in having some very good exhibitors and he Specially mentioned Mr Rockell who had journeyed some twenty miles to exhibit and had been successful in winning the Citizens’ Trophy, and also to Mrs Galland, a very consistent exhibitor, and many others could be mentioned who took a gr&t interest in the Society. No doubt there were some who were disappointed at not, securing prizes, but this should be an incentive for better effort in the future. He wished to thank all those who had assisted to make the Show a success and Miss E. Patters on for presenting him with a rosette, the badge of his office as President. For the Citizens Trophy there were eleven entries, and the quality of the bulbs was excellent. East year this trophy was won by Mrs Galland, but it changed hands this year, the winner being Mr Rockel. In the evening the local Borough Band played a number of selections outside the hall, which were much appreciated. The nail driving competitions were well patronised, the winners being Mr G. H. Stiles and Mrs Gower. The sheep weight guessing competition, was won by Mr H. C. Pattersen with a guess of 63 lbs, the correct weight being 64 lbs. The receipts totalled ,£l7 os 6d, made up of door takings £4 19s 6d, tearooms £2 13s, entrance fees £6 2s 3d, sheep guessing £1 11s, nail driving 10s, sale of exhibits 4s 6d, buttonholes 5s 3d and special prizes 15s.
