THE HEMP INDUSTRY.

JULY GRADING RETURNS. HEMP. The total number of bales graded was 4,080, as compared with 9,487 for the corresponding month of last year, a decrease of 5,407 bales. For the twelve months ending 31st July, 1914, the number of bales graded was 129,469, as compared with 150,527 for the previous twelve months, the decrease .being 21,058 bales. The number graded at each port was: Wellington 1,399, Foxton 1,155, Auckland 931, Bluff 253, Dunedin 175, Picton 102, Lyttelton 33, and Blenheim 32. The following are the details ;

Five bales at Auckland, 31 at Foxton, 14 at Wellington, 21 at Dunedin, and 7 at Bluff were graded common, and four bales rejected at Foxton and six at Wellington. Tow. During the month 1,482 bales were dealt with, as compared with 3,261 for the corresponding month of last year, a decrease of 1,779 bales. For the twelve months ending 31st July, 1914, the number of bales graded was 41,940, as compared with 52,265 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 10,325 bales.

Included in the above totals are 20 bales condemned at Auckland, 11 at Wellington, 7 at Dunedin, and 28 at Bluff. Stripper Slips.

During the month the number of bales graded was 35, as compared with 89 tor the corresponding month of last year, a decrease of 54 bales. For the twelve months ending 31st July, 1914, the number of bales dealt with was 3,560. Of these, 20 at Foxton were passed as first grade, and 11 at Foxton and four at Wellington second grade.
