BRAVERY RECOGNISED.

ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY AWARDS. At the Coronation Hall last uigiit, just prior to the commencement of the second portion of the entertainment, opportunity was taken of presenting, on behalf of the R.oyal Humane Society, an hi Memoriam Certificale to the family of the late Mr William Teviotdale and a bronze medal and certificate to Mr Guy Edwards, in recognition of their bravery in connection with the drowning fatality in the Manawatu River in May last, when Mr Teviotdale lost his life in an attempt to save another. The presentations were made by the Mayor, who said that it was his privilege to at least make public recognitiou .1 i.ie brave actions of the late Mr William Teviotdale and Mr Guy Edwards, in connection with the drowning fatality in the Manawatu River some time ago. As would be remembered, representations bad been made to the Royal Humane Society, with a view to having the brave actions of those concerned suitably recognised, and this had now been done by the awarding of an In, Memoriam Certificate to the next of kin of the late Mr Teviotdale, and to Mr Guy Edwards, the Society’s bronze medal and certificate. Mr Stiles referred to the admiration felt by all at the late Mr Teviotdale’s brave action and willing sacrifice, saying that he had truly acted according to Scripture, which said: “Greater love hath no man than that he lay down his life for another,’' The audience stood, in silence, whilst Mr Stiles made the presentation to Master Basil Teviotdale, who, in doing so, said he felt sure that the certificate would be the greatest treasure in the home and would always remind them of a father’s sacrifice and brave action. In making the presentation to Mr Edwards, the Mayor said the Royal Humane Society had been pleased to award him the bronze medal, which was only given in cases of conspicuous bravery and he congratulated him on so early in his career securing such a valuable token.
