FOXTON DEBATING SOCIETY.
A very enjoyable time was spent last night by members of the above Society', when an evening on Dickens was spent. Mr Geo. Daniell occupied the chair, and read a very interesting paper on the life oi Dickens. Mr Chrystall gave a reading from the “Pickwick Papers.” Miss Baillie and Miss Signal from “Martin Chuzvlewit,” Mr Daniell senr. read Sergt. Buzfuz’s defence in the case “Bardell v. Pickwick,” Mr Claris a selection from the “Cricket on the Hearth,” Master Daniell selection from the “Pickwick Papers,’’ Miss Honore descriptive of a wild night at sea, followed by a duet by Miss Doris Signal and Mr Chrystall, “What are the Wild Waves Saying ?•’ Mr Chrystall read the humorous scene in connection with the women’s branch ... ..ic Bricklayers’ Temperance Society, from the Pickwick Papers, and Mr Honore a selection from David Copperfield. A debate on vegetarianism will be held at the next meeting.
