SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary meeting of the local State school committee was held on Thursday night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman ), Betty, Hussey, Perreau and Thompson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Henderson, Woods and Chrystall. Correspondence was received from the Board re the postponement of alterations to the teacher’s residence owing to the unsettled state of affairs and the need for husbanding the Board’s resources. A circular and subscription lists were also received from the Board in respect to Primary Schools Ambulance Fund and asking that Friday, 28th inst, be set aside for an appeal on that behalf. It was decided to place the matter in the hands of the headteacher. It was resolved to request the contractor to carry out the asphalting of the school path without delay. The visitors’ rdtart was read and adopted and {recounts passed for payment. The headteacher repotted as follows: —“The average attendance for the last four weeks were, 335*8, 351.8, 358.3, 347- 1 - The average lor the whole period was 348.25, out of an average roll number of 379.75. The present roll number is 384. The average attendance, 92 pet cent, of roll number, is excellent for winter months. lam pleased to report that the school premises ate in an excellent state of repair.” A letter from the Borough Council re overhanging trees was held over. It was decided to apply to the Board, as in past years, for hall payment of borough sanitation charge. * A circular from the Board containing suggested amendments to the Education Act was received. Messrs Perreau and Thompson were appointed visitors for the month.
