PARLIAMENT AND THE WAR.
DATE OF THE GENERAE EJECTIONS.
The fact that Parliament has adjourned until the 26th inst. raises the question of whether the elections will take place at the usual time, at the end of November or early in December, or whether the life ot Parliament will be prolonged so as to obviate the necessity of appealing to the electors on Dominion issues when the minds of the people are obsessed by larger considerations. A section of members consider that any vote given at the polls under existing circumstances will not be a true reflex of popular opinion, while on the other hand Government members are of opinion that, war or no war, there is no necessity to change the usual order of things and that public opinion will have settled down sufficiently by December to enable voters to vote intelligently on Dominion issues. Questioned on the subject by a Post reporter the Prime Minister said the Government had not yet given the matter the slightest consideration. It may, however, be pointed out that when Mr Massey moved the adjournment ot the House last night he expressed the hope that on resumption members would go on with ordinary business, and in Opposition circles this is interpreted as an intention to clew up the ordinary work of Parliament at as early a date as possible, and release members for the election campaign.
