HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the committee of the above was held last night and was well attended. The president, Mr G. H. Stiles, presided. It was decided to ask the band to play a programme of music at the forthcoming Bulb Show. The question of postponing the Bulb Show on account of the unsettled state of affairs occasioned by the war, was discussed. It was decided not to abandon the show. It was resolved that the Autumn Show be held two days on Thursday and Friday thie first week in March. The autumn schedule, with minor alterations, was adopted. The following stewards were appointed for the, Bulb Show : Classes A. and 8., Miss Signal ; C., Miss Speirs ; D., Miss Ross ; E., Mrs Harvey; F, and G., Mrs Hislop and Miss Fitzroberts ; tea rooms was left in the hands of the secretary to arrange; Mr Boyes was appointed to attend to the guessing competition ; door stewards, Messrs.Kempster, Henderson, Whibley, Lumsden and Newth; sweets stall, Mrs Woods, The following special prizes have been donated for the Spring Show :r—Mr F. O. Smith, Levin, ios fid pound cake ; Mrs Renton, Himatangl, trophy value ss, sponge cake, sponge roll and sponge sandwich ; Miss 1,.' Woodroofe ss, scones white, brown and girdle; Mrs James Robinson ss, seed cake, 5s madeira cake ; Mrs Greig’s trophy, locket, decorative class ; Mr G. H. Stiles trophy value xos fid; Mr Speirs trophy value 2is, cottage garden, winners of past two years not to compete ; Mr Ml E. Perreau cake, nail driving ; Mrs Mandl trophy value ss, children’s sewing Sc. I.; B. H. Just special hedge or shelter trees value ios, for best collection cut blooms grown out of doors. Autumn Show. — Mr F. O. Smith, Levin, ios fid, fruit cake ; Mrs Renton, Himatangl, trophy value ss, sponge cake, sponge roll and sponge sandwich,; Mrs Kempster ss,' scones seed, currant and date; J. Walls, cake ; B, H. Just special value ios, best collection cut flowers; Mr G. H. Stiles trophy value ios fid; Mrs F. Robinson, ios points, chutpey, pickles and sauce. Accounts were passed for payment. and several other minor matters were attended to and the meeting rose.. ,
